His Excellency Sheikh Hamdan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and Chancellor of UAE University, expressed his appreciation for the great efforts and initiatives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President, Prime Minister, Ruler of Dubai, to set up more medical edifices, which clearly indicates that the leadership continues to implement its policies in the development of all sectors including the healthcare sector, in the best interest of the country and its people.
This came after the issuance of the Cabinet Resolution No. (28) For 2014 by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, to establish the National Institute for Medical Specializations (NIMS), under the umbrella of the UAE University.
The Minister affirmed that the Ministry and the University, with the zeal of their employees, are prepared to make the efforts of His Highness a success, and raise the scientific and professional levels of employees in all health sectors, the federal and local government, the private health sectors, the concerned civil associations and institutions inside the State, and the health professions, as the role of the Ministry of Higher Education and scientific research comes through its membership in the advisory committee formed by a decision of the Board of Directors of the Institute.
The Minister emphasized the eligibility and readiness of both the Ministry and the University to implement the tasks of establishing and launching the Institute and consolidating its role, as the UAE University, the mother of all universities in the State, has added all experiences, knowledge, and capabilities to all its specialties, especially to the College of Medicine and Health Sciences , which is the first medical college in the State, and it was opened in 1984, and has the highest ranking among them, after the special attention it received by the wise leadership and all its officials. For its part, the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research was able to prove its competency to keep up with all that is new, its capability to develop the higher education in the State in cooperation and coordination with all relevant authorities, making great strides towards achieving leadership in higher education and global competitiveness in scientific research in the State, and contributing to the achievement of the knowledge society and the development of higher education and scientific research in the State, through managing the scholarships for citizens efficiently in order to meet the requirements of the development of society, organizing the work of higher education institutions and ensuring the quality of their output, and strengthening the capacity of scientific research and innovation in accordance with the high-level competitive standards.
The resolution, published in the last edition of the Official Gazette, included a number of materials, including the reference to the objectives of the institute which is, according to the Resolution, designed to achieve the development of the health sector in the State, by advancing the scientific and professional levels of doctors and healthcare professionals in the various disciplines, in collaboration with the educational institutions and medical and health organizations inside the State and abroad.
It also aims, according to Article 4 of the Resolution, to raise the level of awareness about higher medical education, and specialized training and programs that help the development of healthcare, as well as the organization of specialized training, and the provision of steps and processes, to maintain the quality of clinical education.
