Under the patronage of His Excellency Sheikh Hamdan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Chairman of the Coordinating Council for Higher Education, the First Forum on Higher Education Policies will be held in Abu Dhabi at the Convention Center in Zayed University tomorrow, Wednesday, October 29th, 2014.
The Council called on the academic leaders in the public and private universities and colleges in the State to attend the Forum, in which the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and the National Qualifications Authority are participating, in order to discuss the axes of the strategy of higher education sector in the UAE.
This forum comes within the directives of His Excellency to consolidate the constructive dialogue with the concerned institutions in the State in order to achieve the knowledge economy agenda and the UAE Vision 2021, through enhancing communication and dialogue between the public and private universities, contributing to the development of the national strategy and public policy of the higher education sector, improving the quality and efficiency of the outputs of higher education system, coordination and integration between the institutions, and working on the compatibility of visions and strategic plans of the universities with the national agenda and economic and community development in the UAE.
The Coordinating Council for Higher Education was established by decision of the UAE Cabinet on May 12th, 2014, under the chairmanship of the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, in order to regulate the higher education sector in the State. It includes members from the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the Ministry of Presidential Affairs, federal universities, and some private universities.
The Council’s tasks are centered on the coordination between the strategic plans for the federal and private higher education institutions, and achieving compatibility and integration in the various fields of specialization, in line with the educational message of each institution and the needs of society and the labor market. The Council is continuously working on studying the level of performance of higher education institutions, and it strives to promote the joint cooperative initiatives between the public and private universities and colleges, and proposes initiatives, projects, and development plans for the higher education sector to upgrade education and scientific research.
