The UAE celebrates the World Humanitarian Day with the countries of the world, which is marked on August 19th of each year. This Day will be dedicated to celebrate workers in the humanitarian work all over the world, and this year, it holds the title of “Inspiring the World’s Humanity”.
The UAE is one of the leading countries in the consecration of the humanitarian approach in word and deed in all local, Arab, and international forums, following the example of the founder of the State, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, which has motivated a lot of public, private, and civil state institutions to launch more vital and quality humanitarian and charitable initiatives through thousands of government and community events.
His Excellency Sheikh Hamdan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, stressed that His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State, works to enhance the humanitarian work approach in order for the UAE to become an extended hand to all countries and peoples in need, because the Emiratis are fond of good and humanitarian work, and they follow in the footsteps of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.
The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research has been working on spreading the culture of humanitarian work, and following the wise leadership approach to spread the love of good work, in order to help the needy and fight against poverty, hunger, and disease, which will earn the future generation a reservoir of morals and humanity as a result of instilling goodness in the hearts of Emiratis.
His Excellency pointed out that the UAE does not wait for the international calls for relief to meet the needs of the affected countries, rather, it takes the initiative to do good without requirements or restrictions, which made it win the first place in the world as the largest donor of official development aid in 2014, as compared to its gross national income, after the official development assistance provided by the UAE reached 18 billion Dirhams (89.4 billion Dollars), with 17.1% of gross national income.
The UAE over the past years has launched many global humanitarian initiatives that serve to enhance the capabilities of millions of people from the target segments in many fragile and marginalized countries and geographical areas and those plagued with natural disasters, armed conflicts, violence and wars, hunger, poverty, disease, and destitution, which confirms the country’s commitment to its global humanitarian mission and its principles, and its keenness to consolidate its position as a capital of humanity, goodness, relief, and support for all.
