Regional Liaison Office for Europe and the Middle East led by the U.S. Coast Guard hails UAE experience

The Regional Liaison Office for Europe and the Middle East led by the U.S. Coast Guard, has praised the strategy for action being implemented by the Higher Committee for Security of Civil Ports and Airports in the UAE and the implementation of adopted mechanism for the International Ship and Port Facility Security Code (ISPS Code) issued by the International Maritime Organisation.

It added that the UAE occupies a leading position globally regarding the institutional methodology in organisation, planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation.

This was disclosed during a meeting between Sultan bin Yaqoub Al Zoubi, Executive Director of the Security of Ports and Airports with Rapporteur of the Committee Jose Fraser, Liaison Officer for the Regional Liaison Office for Europe and the Middle East led by the United States Coast Guard, in the presence of a number of directors of departments, heads of sections and inspectors of the Committee.

Fraser said the visit comes as a complementary to the visit paid the work team of the Committee of the Coast Guard last month in which the team evaluated the methodology and implementation mechanism of the UAE to the (ISPS Code).

He hailed the UAE experience, which blended the vision of leadership derived from the vision of the federal government in ensuring the security and safety of the country.

For his part, Sultan bin Yaqoub Al Zoubi, Executive Director of Security of Ports and Airports, thanked the U.S. Coast Guard Command, indicating that the Committee works under direct instructions by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Public Works, Chairman of the Higher Committee for UAE Civil Ports and Airports Security, to implement the directives of government regarding boosting of the UAE’s leading position in the world.

He added that the UAE ports are major players in transport and movements of goods and people in the secure environment that supports the national economy.

Al Zoubi reiterated that Sheikh Hamdan follows through periodic meetings, visits, e-functions and tasks all the duties carried out by the work teams of the Committee. He added that Sheikh Hamdan issues directly instructions to ensure all the objectives and requirements are implemented in accordance with high quality.

The visiting delegation was introduced to all facilities of the Committee, including the training centre. The visitors also toured some port premises in the UAE.
