Sheikh Hamdan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan,
Minister of Public Works, and Chairman of National Media Council (NMC), took yesterday a tour of the Emirates Center for Strategic Studies and Research (ECSSR), on the sidelines of the Media and National Identity Forum which held at the ECSSR headquarters.
While touring various research and media sections, Sheikh Hamdan was detailed by Ahmed Saif, Deputy Director for Administrative Affairs, Mohammed Abdullah Al Ali, Head of Media Division, and Jasim Al Marzouqie, Head of News Monitoring, about progress of works in the centre.
Dr. Jamal Sanad Al-Suwaidi, Director General of the ECSSR, welcomed Sheikh Hamdan and thanked him for opening the Forum.
In a statement on the visit, Al Suwaidi said :” It’s a great honour for us to see Sheikh Hamdan engage with his fellow media persons and academics from within the UAE and GCC countries and share them talks about experiences of media establishments in brotherly countries for promoting national identity, heightening social awareness of its importance in the world of globalisation and openness, human rights and basic freedoms in a way that upholds our principles and values towards the path of civilisaitioal renaissance in the UAE and GCC countries”.
Jointly organised by the NMC and ECSSR in collaboration with Journalism Association as part of the UAE’s 40th National Day celebrations, the one-day assembled distinguished group of experts, intellectuals and media personalities who spoke their personal course of careers and experiences and the media role in deepening the sense of national identity and in influencing level of awareness on national identity in their respective countries.
Issues discussed included media and identity in the era of globalization, national identity in the UAE media, institutional and individual experiences in promoting national identity in the media, and GCC media experience in spreading awareness of cultural and national identity.
