Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Public Works, accompanied by Sultan Bin Saeed Al Mansoori, Minister of Economy, visited the pavilion of the Ministry of Economy within the activities of GITEX Technology Week 2011, where they were briefed on major online services showcased by the ministry such as the new website and electronic system for goods monitoring and the new edition of the Ministry’s portal www.economy.ae.
On this occasion, Sheikh Hamdan has praised the level of services provided by the ministry of economy that promote economic development and provide an ideal environment for the business community, noting the importance of these services in spreading awareness about the concepts of knowledge economy and achieving a knowledge based economy according to UAE vision 2021.
Sheikh Hamdan also viewed the first magazine in the UAE specialized in SMEs which targets young UAE nationals to educate them about the importance of engaging in this vital sector. He signed the first issue of the publication.
Al Mansoori emphasized the importance of adopting the advanced technologies showcased at GITEX TECHNOLOGY WEEK as a strategic need to develop the UAE as a competitive knowledge-based economy in line with the UAE Vision 2021.
Al Mansoori said the investment in e services is in line with the government’s commitment to reduce delays in service and turnaround times through the use of e-processing. “The Ministry’s Plans for total electronic conversion are predicted to reach 100 %by the end of 2012 as the current one is 90%,” he added.
He has highlighted the importance of the interactive features of the new portal that effectively position the electronic services and its features, in addition to the detailed description of each service. He said the new portal also highlights the laws and regulations and objectives of the ministry, in addition to photos, videos, news and a link to Facebook and Twitter.
e said the strong response to the Ministry of Economy’s showcase at GITEX highlighted the public’s awareness on the importance of e-services. “This year, the Ministry of Economy presented a new cross-section of high quality and efficient online services which will be made available to residents and businesses alike. We also aimed at building strategic partnerships with global IT companies to enhance the efficiency of our e-services. At GITEX, we also strengthened cooperation opportunities with many partners from the local and federal sectors to share best practices and experiences,” he added.
The Ministry has also showcased the Electronic System for Goods Monitoring which gained much attention from senior officials and businessmen at Gitex. This advanced project connects the Ports ‘&’ Customs and the Ministry of Economy and centres of major retailers, enabling the Ministry to counter any attempts at potential monopoly practices by negotiating with suppliers or distribution outlets.
The Ministry also highlighted the website www.madeintheuae.com in its new design and features where manufacturers can promote their factories, products, and services. It enables UAE manufacturers to reach and connect with a global audience of buyers.
