Chris Trelawny, Deputy Director of the Maritime Safety Division of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) has hailed the advanced security level of UAE’s ports and its vital and important role in navigation and maritime transport allover the world.
He was speaking at a lecture on maritime security organized by the Training and Evaluation Department in the Higher Committee for UAE Civil Seaports and Airports Security under the auspices of Sheikh Hamdan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Public Works and Chairman of the Committee.
The lecture held at the Armed Forces Officers Club here in Abu Dhabi, was attended by Sultan bin Yacoub Al Zaabi, Executive Director for the security of seaports and airports, and Dr. Ahmed Bin Thani Al Hamli, Chairman of Subcommittee of Ports Security in addition to a number of officials.
He added that UAE’s ports are considered regional and global anchor to facilitate the movement of transport and trade.
Trelawny stressed IMO’s appreciation for UAE’s experience in establishing the Higher Committee for UAE Civil Seaports and Airports Security as a federal independent body in the field of security control, audit and inspection as it reflects the wise policy of the country’s leadership.
He explained that the cooperation shown by the UAE in this field is a distinguished and pioneering role and experience to be followed.
For his part, Sultan bin Yacoub Al Zaabi hailed the leading role of Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan and his consistent and progressive guidance and follow-up.
Al Zaabi also expressed his thanks and appreciation to the International Maritime Organization and its Deputy Director of the Maritime Safety Division expressing the committee’s keenness to continue communication with IMO for the exchange of developments and updates on laws, legislation and security applications.
He also presented the Committee’s Shield to Chris Trelawny who highlighted the keenness of his division on maintaining a constant communication with the Committee.
