His Excellency Sheikh “Hamdan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan”, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, on Wednesday, January 6th, 2015, attended the Ministry of Interior (MOI)’s ceremony honoring the winners of the first edition of “MOI Excellence Award” for the distinguished students studying abroad, which is specified for national students from the government and private authorities, at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel, in Abu Dhabi.
His Highness Lt. General Sheikh “Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan”, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, who attended the ceremony, and Her Excellency Dr. “Amal Abdullah Al Qubaisi”, Head of the Federal National Council, urged the scholarship students to be the best ambassadors for their country, to reflect the civilized aspect of the State during their study, and to benefit from science and culture that positively impact their work in the future, so as to return part of the favor of their country that gave them everything they needed. His Highness also urged them to maintain their values inherited from the legacy of the ancestors, and commit to show the real civilization of the UAE and its people, and he handed the prizes to the winners, and directed to grant them the medal of community service.
The first place for the Creative Ideas category was won by student Dr. “Rashid Hamdan Ghaferi”, “PhD in Criminal Genes” from the UK, for his invention of a new male genetic imprint of great importance in the criminal field, and he has registered the patent at the world level and published more than 7 scientific papers in the most prestigious universities. The second place was won by student Dr. “Zainab Mohammed Sharif”, specialized in “Molecular Biology” from the UK, for her idea to establish the Tumors Bank, which contains documented research base concerned with the genetic defect and most prevalent tumors in the UAE, and her idea is new and unprecedented. While student “Mahfouz Salem Shamakh”, “Bachelor of Industrial Engineering” from Australia, won the third place for his invention related to the use of copper in hospitals to insert its atoms in the bacteria, by putting it on the hospital beds and door handles.
As for the National Representation category, the first place was won by student “Noura Naser Al Karbi”, “PhD in International Relations” from Spain, for representing the supervisor of the State in the regional and Arab forums, for winning the first place in the “Arab Youth Excellence Award”, for obtaining 51 local and global appreciation certificates, and for her participation in voluntary work and global conferences, in addition to her academic excellence. The second place was won by “Reem Suleiman Nasser Mohammad Al Naqbi”, an “Electronic Engineering” student in Japan, for her role in representing the State in a civilized way, and for her outstanding participation in the cultural events that introduced the heritage of the UAE and the Gulf in Japan, along with her high achievement in the Japanese language proficiency exam, and for her academic achievement. “Ibtisam Ali Tunaiji”, “Master of Leading Science” student in the USA, and a lecturer at the UAE University, won the third place for her role in representing the UAE and introducing the customs and traditions of the UAE society, by linking the national authority with creativity, and introducing the American society to the successes and achievements of the UAE.
