His Excellency Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, UAE University Chancellor, headed on Wednesday January 6th 2015 the second meeting of the University Council for the academic year 2015-2016, at his Excellency’s office at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in Abu Dhabi.
The University Council discussed several important topics which contribute to strengthening the UAE University’s path toward excellence, and promote cultural and social values, and reinforce the concepts of sustainable development, in accordance with international standards for academic and institutional accreditation, to complement the leadership process, reflecting the strategic plan and standards of quality and excellence, it also discussed the “2016.. year of reading” initiative, which works towards establishing a culture of science and knowledge and learning about the cultures of the world through a series of cultural and intellectual and knowledge initiatives and projects, organized by the University.
The Council members were also briefed on the University’s report on academic programs which received accreditation from professional international academic institutions, and the general framework of the draft of the strategic plan of the University 2017-2021, which aims to strengthen the role of the University in scientific research and graduate studies, as well as innovation and entrepreneurship curriculum approved recently by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in cooperation with Stanford University, which will be offered and taught with the start of the second semester, 2015/2016.
The Council adopted a set of initiatives and resolutions, and stressed the importance of strategic partnerships offered to the scientific Park of the University, which aims to make it a global platform for researchers, entrepreneurs, innovators and creators, contributing to the sustainable development.
The University Council includes his Excellency Mohammed Abdullah Al Gergawi, Minister of Cabinet Affairs, his Excellency Hussain Al Hammadi, Minister of Education, her Excellency Noura Mohammed Al-Kaabi, Chief Executive Officer of the Abu Dhabi Media Zone Authority (twofour54), her Excellency Aisha Abdullah Omran, Editor-in-Chief (Gulf Today), his Excellency Saif Mohammed Al-Hajeri, Chief Executive Officer of Tawazun Holding, his Excellency Abdullah Nasser Al-Mansouri, Chairman of the Board of Al-Nasser Holdings, his Excellency Eissa Abdulfattah Kazim, Director of Dubai International Financial Center, his Excellency Dr. Mohammed Ali Al Sheryani, and his Excellency Dr. Ali Rashid Al Noaimi, UAE University Vice Chancellor, in addition to from UAE University; Dr. Butti Sultan Al-Muhairi, College of Law, Dr. Fatima Abdulbaqi Al-Jasmi, College of Medicine and Health Sciences, Dr. Asma Abubaker Al-Menhali, College of Science, Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al-Suwaidi, College of Education.
