Under the patronage of His Excellency Sheikh “Hamdan Bin Mubarak Al Nahayan”, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the “College of Research And Graduate Studies” at “Abu Dhabi University” is organizing the second annual “United Arab Emirates Undergraduate Student Research Competition (UGSRC)” on the (22nd) of May 2014.
His Excellency’s patronage to this contest comes to promote the importance of scientific research in universities, in line with the wise leadership’s eagerness to incorporate the concept of knowledge economy and the transformation of the society towards this goal through its care to the higher education and scientific research system, to prepare national specialized cadres in a variety of sectors.
The contest which is to be held in “Abu Dhabi University” is the first of its kind in the UAE, the competition promotes undergraduate research efforts throughout universities around the UAE and enhances student skills, critical and analytical thinking as well as instills a sense of confidence in their research abilities.
In its first year, the (UAE-UGSRC) attracted a lot of students from different universities in the State who presented research papers and projects in several disciplines. The research was then presented throughout sessions with a specialized committee composed of professors and experts from various universities and industries that covered the scope of the competition. Eighteen winning teams were announced, with the (1st, 2nd, and 3rd) place winners in each category of the competition awarded (10,000) Dirhams, (7,000) Dirhams, and (5,000) Dirhams, respectively. This year the contest is targeting around (280) higher education institutions throughout the UAE to give more students the chance to showcase and present their research. Teams can consist of up to four students from one or several universities, which allow participants to exchange views, ideas and experiences with students of other universities.
It is worth mentioning that registration for the competition ends on February (20th), students can apply for a contest through the University’s website, and on the (28th) of February announcement of the science teams will be selected to provide shortlisted teams will be announced who will present their research projects during the closing ceremony in May. The contest coincides with the University’s celebrations of its (10) year anniversary
