His Excellency Sheikh “Hamdan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan”, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, signed a memorandum of understanding to activate cooperation between UAE and “Greece” on (9/2/2014), in the field of higher education and scientific research. His EXcellency “Konstantinos Arvanitopoulos”, Minister of Education and Religious Affairs, signed the “MOU” on behalf of “Greece”.
His Excellency Sheikh “Hamdan Bin Mubarak” stressed during his reception for the Greek Minister at his office in the “Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research” in “Abu Dhabi”, his keenness on the continuation of bilateral relationships between the two countries, and that signing this memorandum provides significant opportunities to expand the horizons of cultural and scientific exchange between both countries.
The “MOU” is considered an way for strengthening the brotherly relationship between the two countries, and a furtherance of the economic, cultural, and art cooperation agreement which was signed on the (21st) of June, (1976).
The agreement aims to enhance cooperation between universities and institutions of higher education and scientific research in both countries, and cooperation in the fields of research and technology, especially in mutual research projects, as well as participating in seminars and conferences held in both countries and exchanging visits for experts, researchers, technicians, and faculty members of higher education institutions for research and educational purposes. In addition, it aims at exchanging information about academic quality, results evaluation, curriculum development, students and graduates affairs, and qualifications for higher education institutions.
It has been agreed within the “MOU” on all matters related to scientific and cultural activities of students and exchange of visits between them, and on participating in art and scientific exhibitions in both countries. The “Greek” government emphasized its support for the recent decision of cancelling the condition of obtaining a “Schengen” visa by Emirati citizens to enter “European Union” countries, which supports the implementation of all agreed items of the “MOU” that connects the two countries with brotherly bonds, and embodies the meaning of scientific cooperation between them, and due to the fact that education is the backbone of the State, this agreement was signed to ensure the support of scientific research by the State under its wise leadership. On the other hand, the guest expressed his admiration of the level of development of higher education and scientific research in the UAE.
