“Hamdan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan” gives directions for the implementation of the recommendations of the “Crisis and Emergency Management Conference”

Sheikh “Hamdan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan”, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Chancellor of the “UAE University”, instructed the relevant authorities to implement the recommendation of the fourth “Crisis and Emergency Management Conference” for the introduction of business continuity management as part of the curriculum in colleges and universities, His Excellency also directed the “Continuing Education Center” in the “UAE University” to implement the recommendation to give persons with special needs the needed attention to provide them with the means to raise the level of awareness of correct actions during emergencies, crises and disasters, to complement and support the efforts of the “National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority” who published a special edition of the magazine “Taware’e wa Azamat”, and other educational and awareness publications for the blind in “Braille”, his Excellency directed the managers of the Center to give this category long-term interest in all courses that the Center organizes in contribution to the integration of this category into the society, and to use their abilities and capabilities in building the State.

The Conference which was recently held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh “Hazza Bin Zayed Al Nahyan”, National Security Advisor and Deputy Chairman of “Abu Dhabi” Executive Council, under the theme “Preparedness and Response, Responsibility of all: a vigilant community”. And it was recently concluded with several recommendations, including the need for continued work on an advanced infrastructure capable of responding to crises and disasters, and take advantage of best practices and exchange of experiences between all stakeholders on a global level, and prepare detailed contingency plans which should constantly be updated in light of new global developments, and the need for prior coordination between countries, particularly at the regional and Arab levels, and greater preparedness to deal with all stages of crises and disasters, in particular through early warning before they occur, and to support research centers specialized in crises and emergencies issues, in order to be able to read the initial indications that precede it to analyze them and present scenarios for decision makers, the Conference also announced several recommendations for various sectors and media on how to deal with crisis, and the adoption of legislations requiring the private sector to develop thought out plans to ensure business continuity, which is achievable in coordination with the public sector and stakeholders during emergency situations, and the introduction of business continuity management as part of the curriculum in colleges and universities, in addition to the preparation of the programs and scenarios of confrontation and periodic training on its application, after working to have the best techniques and equipment necessary, the Conference also recommended that the special needs category should be given the needed attention, and to raise awareness of how to act during emergencies, crises and disasters.
