Memorandum of Understanding between “Higher Education” and “Education” signed by Hamdan bin Mubarak and Humaid Al Qutami

The “Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research” signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the “Ministry of Education” in order to strengthen the bonds of cooperation and partnership between them continuously, based on the cooperation approach and scientific partnership. The Memorandum was signed by his Excellency Sheikh “Hamdan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan”, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and his Excellency “Humaid Mohammad Al Qutami”, Minister of Education, on Tuesday, (6th) of May (2014), at the headquarters of “UAE University” in “Al Ain”, “Abu Dhabi”.

His Excellency Sheikh “Hamdan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan” is optimistic about the outcome of the Memorandum, stressing on the role of the “Ministry of Higher Education” in representing the higher education and scientific research sector in the UAE, and that the purpose of its establishment is to contribute in building a competitive knowledge-based economy, identify the national research priorities in the State, play a major role in enhancing research and innovation in the State, support the innovators, build the national research capabilities, and establish a national innovation system in the State. On the other hand, the “Ministry of Education” aims to raise the level of educational performance of pre-university education, and utilize the manpower to build a knowledge society and deepen the values of citizenship through the preparation of national curricula with international quality standards, and the adoption of a good, educated, and creative citizen who effectively contributes to the development of their society.

The two parties seek to promote the value of educational studies and research, and publish them in the educational communities and institutions, and cooperate in supporting research through the provision of experienced and specialized competencies, in addition to exchanging research and publications available for both sides, and any joint activities that contribute in spreading the research and educational culture. As for scholarships, both parties coordinate to send students on scholarships to study majors that meet the needs of the educational field.

Signing the Memorandum came in response to the desire of “Ministry of Higher Education” to strengthen cooperation and partnership with the stakeholders in order to meet the needs of the community, and enhance interaction between the major pillars of innovation (Universities, Government Authorities, and Industry) so as to support research and development, and build the research capabilities.
